Company History

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited was officially registered through the Government of India on 15 the 15th September 2000. The company’s operations beginning on the 1 1 October, 2000. It assumed the telecom services functions from the Department of Telecommunications, except in Mumbai and Delhi which were under the realm of MTNL.

In the early 2000s, BSNL had reached a market share of 72% fixed-line phone. The company introduced mobile telephony services in year 2002 via CellOne GSM/CDMA. In 2007, BSNL set up 8,000 towers for telecommunications across India. BSNL introduced 3G services across India in 2009.

BSNL ended telegram service in the year 2013 saw the end of telegram services by BSNL. In the period 2018-2020, the company received permission from the Department of Telecommunications to launch 4G services.
